Home to a Vietcong outpost and stronghold, this island was covered with hordes of the black-clad soldiers. Experienced and highly motivated, the Vietcong are among the toughest jungle fighters in the world.
The terrain was likened to its hosts; thick briar patches, thorns, and impassable foliage, all took their turn cutting and poking those who dare pass. It was here, amid the stinging insects, stench, and face down in the muck, you would find the Delta teams -and loving every minute of it.
A bribe to the local ferryman resulted in safe transport across the river to the other side -or, so it seemed. There was no contact in what was surely a hot sector.
Assigned with the task of locating the enemy outpost, they set forth about their task. The special forces troops moved silently through the thick terrain watchful for enemy movement.
Accurate navigation and silence kept them invisible to the enemy as they crossed the island undetected. Delta succeeded in locating their objective and a firefight ensued. The fighting was vicious, but Delta emerged relatively unscathed.
Having completed their mission, they regrouped and planned to withdraw only to receive their new orders that would send them right back in.
The Vietcong had also taken the opportunity to muster their strength. Reenforcements dug in around the outpost and waited patiently for the attack.
The ensuing battles that erupted for control of that outpost would become legendary on what was later to be called,'Monkey Bone Island.'
